2020-2021 Annual Report

Jacmel, July 20, 2021

Dear Donors and Friends of FONDOP,

We hope this correspondence finds you and your family in excellent health and good spirit!

I am pleased to share with you the achievements that your contribution to FONDOP has supported for the past school year.  Our children just completed one of the shortest academic years since 2009-2010, the year of the earthquake!

Because of the political turmoil and the first wave the pandemic, school year 2019-2020 was extended to October 2020. Thus, Classes resumed only at the end of November 2020 for the session 2020-2021 and were officially closed on June 11, 2021, due to the seriousness of the second wave of COVID-19. Our children were enrolled for barely 6 months if you consider the holidays!

Nevertheless, thanks to your donations, FONDOP managed to contribute to the tuition fees of 95 students as follows:

  • 30 in Preschool and Primary levels up to 6th grade
  • 34 in Third Cycle, comprising 7th, 8th, and 9th grades.
  • 26 at the Secondary level (4 years leading to by the Baccalaureate (Philo) state exam).
  • 3 at the University and,
  • 2 learning a professional skill at vocational institutes.

Of the 95 students assisted this school year, 70 were girls and young ladies, and 25 were boys and young men as indicated in the attached table. In addition, we donated 20 000.00 Haitian gourdes to a Presbyteral School in Lafond, a community next to Jacmel. This amount was added to the contribution of the parents to compensate for those who were unable to fulfill their engagement.

Haiti has made the headline with reports of insecurity, political/social unrests kidnappings and murders and more recently the impact of the pandemic. As a result, the already precarious financial situation of the parents has deteriorated while the cost of living is skyrocketing. For the next school year, many schools are trying to maintain their fees unchanged to make it less difficult for the parents.

FONDOP is now receiving the requests for assistance for 2021-2022 scheduled to start on September6, 2021. As usual the foundation is counting on your generous contribution to maintain a level of assistance that will make a difference in the life of our beneficiaries.

Our achievements for all the past years, were possible because of your uninterrupted financial support and your encouragements! The students, their parents and their schools’ value FONDOP support and thank you, the donors, for giving their children access to one of their most important rights: EDUCATION!

Thank you for your trust, your contribution and undeniable support.

Best regards!
